Wow it has been a while. Dieting and saving money sure does takes its toll on restaurant reviews. But fortunately GNO (girl's night out) saves the day with a trip over to Henderson in Dallas.

Mooky heard about Victor Tangos from a friend and it was all good, which made her insistent that we try the place. We show up around 8:30pm on a Friday and the place is packed. Figures. And not only that, so were most of the neighboring restaurants where we dangerously crossed the street (curse you Henderson drivers for not stopping) to see our luck. Most every place had a 45 minute wait. Phooey. We made our way back to Victor Tangos and waited 10-15 minutes for our table.

Alas, as some of us are aware, Henderson is the trendy place to be and so the flocks come. It's for no reason though, Victor Tangos brings gourmet food down to a level where most of us can afford it. They serve it a la tapas style - food easily shared amongst friends. However, make sure to order a lot if really hungry, because it is not filling. First on the menu: crab, mac and jack gratin with pancetta. Fancy for mac and cheese with crab meat. The macaroni was cooked al dente and I think it was whole grain. Two of the girls did not like the texture of the al dente pasta. I prefer the firmness of the pasta knowing that it still maintains some nutrition. The crabmeat was there but the pancetta was not noticeable. Next up: Ahi tuna nachos. Expect a delicious and "wow better than a sushi place" ahi tuna with fresh herbs and salsa atop 8 freshly made tortilla chips. Yes, 8, but oh so divine. I had two and Mooky cleaned the plate. Plate 3: carnita tacos. Crispy taco shells and tender pork are always a winning combination, however just go to a tacqueria and pay a third of the price. Last: pork belly with celery puree and apple slaw. The pork was seasoned perfectly adding rich flavor to the crispy skin, fat and meat. The saltiness of the meat is balanced with the puree and slaw. The amount of fat to meat on the belly was 2 to 1 turning off one the girls immediately. Reminiscent of foie gras but better tasting and not as greasy. Since we planned to go to wine tasting afterwards, only one of us ordered a drink. The passonfruit gimlet matches a girl who rarely drinks unless sweet and the alcohol cannot be tasted, but gotta watch that girl she will be buzzed in no time.

Come for a bit of food, catching up, and the cocktails.
